Update Notice - SMTP Authentication

Update Notice for All WorldSpice Email Hosting/Colocation Customers!

Starting January 31st, WorldSpice will begin implementing changes to our email systems in order to better fight spam and prepare for growth. These changes will require all of our email hosting customers to make a few changes to their email client (Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc.) in order to ensure smooth email delivery. If you are not an email hosting or server co-location customer, this update may not apply to you – that is, unless you use WorldSpice as your Outbound Email Server.

NOTE: If your email is hosted locally or on another ISP’s server,
your email should not be affected. If you use WorldSpice as
your Outbound Email Server, please make changes below.

STEP 1. Change Your Incoming Email Server to POP3 from mail.

Note: If you do not have a POP account with WorldSpice, skip to STEP 2.

This will affect all customers that have email hosted with WorldSpice. As an example, if your domain is memphis.com, and your POP3 server is set to mail.memphis.com, it will need to be changed to pop3.memphis.com.

STEP 2. Utilize SMTP Authentication to Send Email

Note: For detailed screen-caps, click on links on the left.

This means you’ll have to change your setting to use SMTP authentication to send email. Basically, you’ll have to use a username and password to send email through the WorldSpice network.

If you are outside of our network, you are probably already doing this. Those of you inside our network might be required to make a small change to your mail client (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.). We created walk-throughs (with images) on how to set up SMTP authentication under several of the most popular email clients. These are accessible via links to the left.

STEP 3. Set Outgoing Mail Server to smtp.YourDomain.com (.net, etc.)

This will replace the mail.YourDomain.com (.net, .org, etc.) entry that was previously in your email client (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) If you are outside of our network this will only affect you if your Outgoing Email is set to mail. YourDomain.com (.net, etc.). For example, if your domain is memphis.com, and your outbound SMTP is set to mail.memphis.com, it will need to be changed to smtp.memphis.com.

If you are a co-location customer, not already configured on our relay server, please contact support@worldspice.net for other sending options.

If you have any questions or need assistance implementing these changes please contact support at (901) 843-9300 or support@worldspice.net.
